Our sports injury clinic is run by experienced osteopaths. Our aim is the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems.

Self help guide (part 1)

If you have a sports injury you need to:

Prevent further injury by stopping the activity concerned, particular impact sports like running, football, judo, tennis and look for the cause.

Examine the area with gentle touch looking for any bruising or swelling, the first treatment for most initial injuries is to stop/reduce the swelling and manage the pain.

R.I.C.E.E - rest, ice, compression, elevation and exercise. (By exercise we meant non weight bearing exercise) this is the primary treatment for acute soft tissue injury.

Visit your osteopath if the injury is persisting or no change in pain is noticed.

A proper diagnosis should be sort as further assessment or investigation such as a scan or X-ray maybe required.

After treatment for any injury whether it be neck injury, hamstring strain or knee injury a graded return to exercise has to be put in place.

If training is returned to too to quickly a minor injury may become a long term problem.

Sports injuries cover a broad spectrum of injury. Some of which are:
  • Foot & ankle injury - strains & sprains
  • Hamstring strain
  • Back injury - muscular pull, disc or nerve irritation Neck injury - impact or tension
  • Groin strain
  • Knee injury - ACL,Menisci/cartilage
  • Shoulder injury - joint or rotator injury
  • Tennis & Golfers elbow.

The osteopathic approach to sports injuries:

When I treat you, my goal is not only to relieve your symptoms, but also to remove the conditions that predisposed you to that injury. This approach should stop your injury re-occurring

Osteopaths are not only concerned with treatment and management, but also prevention and good training practise for a healthy body.

We also provide a Sports injury prevention clinic.
